Key stage 1 and 2

History of Transport

National Curriculum relevance

Science in every day life. Useful products from oil. Physical processes Design and Technology. History. Social awareness.

The programme

The day begins with an introduction in either one of the museum’s conference rooms or the reception area. The ensuing guided talk will outline the development of the motor car and the motor industry in general, using the resources available in the display areas of the museum. During the tour the students will interact with the displays to reinforce the difference between old and new technology, not only in the way they look but in the way they feel and what they are like to sit in. Important milestones in the development of the motor car will be covered, as will social and environmental impact. New ideas will be introduced and the students will be encouraged to ask questions to enhance their understanding of the subject. The talk and tour is normally completed before lunch, leaving the afternoon free for the students to take a more detailed look at the collection and to take the opportunity to draw or complete work books.
