Haynes International Motor Museum Opens Phase One Of Their £4.2 Million Upgrade - Grey Power Helps Move Over 1000 Tons Of Motor Vehicles In 14 Hours

The Haynes International Motor Museum opened Phase One of its multi million pound upgrade in time for the Good Friday crowds.
Seventeen volunteers with an average age of 72 years old moved exhibition material, 187 cars and motorcycles with a combined weight of over 1000 tons in a little over 14 hours. The oldest volunteer was 84 years old Derek Ayres and the youngest 54 year old Alan Goddard.
The exhibition organisation was effectively a giant tile puzzle, which had to be completed on time to avoid disappointing the Easter crowds. Museum volunteers, despite their advancing years proved to be more than equal to the job.

£4.2 MILLION REDEVELOPMENT ENTERS ITS FINAL STAGES

Haynes International Motor Museum will unveil the first phase of its extensive £4.2 million redevelopment
this spring. The redevelopment, which includes new display halls, café, shop and state of the art
conferencing and banqueting suites, will provide a completely new façade to the museum, and is due to be
fully completed in Spring 2014. The development has been privately funded by founder and Chairman John
H Haynes OBE, who opened the museum with just 33 cars, housed in one hall, back in July 1985.

Children get revved up this half term for the opening of Haynes Motorland

Racing cars, Volkswagen campers, ice-cream vans, diggers, and even a full-size double decker bus are all waiting for youngsters to enjoy this half term holiday as Haynes International Motor Museum opens Haynes Motorland, a new £250,000 motor themed family entertainment zone within the grounds of the museum.
Haynes Motorland features a 1,500 square metre adventure playground with a myriad of motoring themed interactive games and miniature vehicles for children to enjoy. Built around a mini road system, children can ride pedal cars around the playground as they learn about road safety and visit the interactive garage to discover the many tools needed to keep vehicles on the road.

The Great Haynes Bake Off a sweet success

This months challenge was Battenburg cake - 1st place Kirsty Simmonds, 2nd place Amanda Wilson and 3rd place went to Janet Thomas. Next months competitors will be challenged with Yule Log. Judges Dave Haramis (Haynes Chef), Chris Haynes (Museum Trustee) and Mike Strode (HDL) enjoyed setting the task and judging the culinary delights.
