Time to celebrate success

Following the Museum’s £6m refurbishment and extension project there were celebrations when the Museum received global recognition at the prestigious International Historic Motoring Awards, held on Thursday 20th November, at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel in London. read more »

Increased business means changes in staff

There have been several changes over the last few months to the Museum team. Marc Haynes is now the CEO and is in charge of both the Museum and the Trading Company. read more »

Museum on TV

The latest television programme to use the Museum in its filming schedule was ‘ Taste of Britian’ presented by Brian Turner and Janet Street-Porter which was screened on BBC2 on Friday 31st October. read more »

Functions and Events News

On Saturday 25th October Museum staff were delighted to host the 25th Anniversary of the Sporting Bears Motor Club. They hired the Merlin Suite for a Charity Ball to celebrate raising a fantastic 1.3 million pounds for children’s charities. They had a ticket sell-out for the black tie dinner with a Sinatra/Rat Pack theme with dancing to a ‘big band’ sound. read more »

Parties, Fairs and Launches

Not just cars and bikes appear at the Museum, but tractors as well, and we were pleased to host an event between the 22nd - 26th September, when a local company hired the conference facilities, which included use of the test track. During the week there were many invited guests who came along to the function. Normal Museum visitors were also able to watch some of the demonstrations on the track, which featured a range of Massey Ferguson tractors. read more »

Visiting Groups

A visit by the Teal Owners Club raised many eyebrows on Sunday 29th June when visitors thought they were seeing a line-up of Bugatti’s. This was probably because Teals were inspired by the design of Bugatti, with most being open two seater roadsters modelled on Bugatti types T35 and T37. A wide variety of engines are fitted in the cars, including, as one visitor told us, the engine of a Morris Marina! Whatever the engine, there was a spectacular array of cars which certainly created a stunning line-up. read more »

Events on two wheels!

Jap Bike Fest returned to the Museum for their classic Japanese Motorcycle show. On Sunday 14th September crowds poured into the Museum to look at the largest collection of Japanese bikes ever seen in the West Country. The event was even larger than last year with all parts of the Museum site being used. These consisted of privately owned classics from the earliest models to the superbikes of each era. All of the top Japanese Club stands featured award winning displays. Organisers once again, described the day as a major success. read more »

Rare Breeds bigger than ever!

This year’s Rare Breeds Motor Show was held on Sunday 7th September and received a record number of entries, with over 135 vehicles registered featuring some truly stunning cars. Numbers were well up on last year making this the most successful event yet. The front car park was filled to capacity with an overflow parking area being used. read more »

Summer speed thrills on track

During the summer holidays a new venture was trialled on the Museum test track which proved to be extremely popular. So popular in fact that it will hosted again in 2015. The electric operated go-karts were, by comparison to their petrol equivalents, extremely quiet, but with no loss of power and much to the surprise and delight of customers, were extremely quick and powerful. read more »
