This years esteemed Haynes annual summer exhibition opened on the 22nd July and runs until Sunday the 11th of September and celebrates the 50th anniversary of one of the most iconic motor cars of all time...............the E Type Jaguar.
For just a few months over the summer period the exhibition will celebrate this very special anniversary by placing the E Type in context with the development of Jaguar sports cars throughout history. Starting from the SS100, the exhibition will chart the story of the E Type right up to the last car in which William Lyons had a direct hand, the XJS which some say was the
E Type replacement.
Highlight of the exhibition will be the D Type that Mike Hawthorn drove with Norman Dewis and Ivor Bueb on that black day at Le Mans in 1955 that witnessed the worst motor racing accident in history when 80 spectators were killed. Duncan Hamilton’s C Type, the oldest surviving C Type in the world will also feature in this line of ultra rare Jaguars. Heading the E types will be chassis number one and the first E type to be sold being owned by Lofty England, manager of Jaguar’s sports car racing team of the 1950’s. Lofty went on to become Chairman and Chief Executive of Jaguar Cars before retiring in 1974. Both E Type’s have been restored by the country’s leading Jaguar restoration company, Classic Motorcars Ltd of Bridgnorth, (CMC).
Many of these iconic cars have not been seen in public for years, now for a limited period of time they will be on display at the Haynes International Motor Museum, Sparkford.
The Summer Exhibition – ‘50 Years of E Type Excellence’ will be officially opened at lunch time by Norman Dewis on Wednesday 27th July. Also on the day the Museum will be receiving a prestigious award from Visit England for the Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme (VAQAS).
It is highly unlikely that these cars will be seen together in one place again so do not miss this chance to experience real motoring history. Some of the cars featured in the exhibition will be taking part in historic races and rallies at times during the summer. Visitors are advised if they have a specific car they wish to see, to check the museum to ensure their favourite is on display before visiting.
