An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Accounts Assistant at the Haynes International Motor Museum in Sparkford, Somerset. As one of the leading museums and visitor attractions in the South West, with 125,000 visitors annually, you will be joining a dynamic and engaged team of over 120 staff and volunteers.

The Museum has over 400 vehicles and as a charity it has three core aims: preservation, restoration and education. The Museum also operates several businesses that donate all of their profits to support these charitable aims. Those businesses are:

Accounts Assistant

The Accounts Assistant will undertake all tasks within the finance department and act as a general support to the Finance Director. The Museum has a culture of mentoring, ownership and mutual professional respect.   • Process purchase invoices and journals accurately ensuring that VAT is treated correctly and any expense is appropriately authorised
  • Manage cash taken at the tills, ensure it is recorded and banked correctly and securely
  • Maintain fixed asset registers
  • Complete bank reconciliations, VAT returns and other regular reports in an accurate and timely manner
  • Undertake credit control if required
  • Assist in the preparation of management accounts and year end statutory account files for audit review
  • Prepare ad hoc financial reports when required
  • Be willing to use your unique skills and experience to work with other team members on ad hoc projects when required

KEY SKILLS and experience required

  • Accuracy and numeracy with a high standard of attention to detail
  • Good IT skills and comfortable with all Microsoft Office software
  • Quick and efficient worker
  • Enquiring mind and willingness to get involved in a variety of tasks
  • Strong Excel capability
  • Able to use own initiative and a good team player
  • Good written and spoken English. (An ability to take meeting minutes would be an advantage but not essential.)
  • Qualified CAT, AAT or similar
  • Experience working with Sage 50
