1960 Austin Nash Metropolitan

Intended only for export to the USA, the Metropolitan was designed by Nash and produced by Austin at its Longbridge plant in Birmingham.  Launched in 1954, it had a 1200cc engine and a three-speed gearbox with a column-mounted gear shift.  The independent front suspension was based on slightly re-arranged A30 components.  The hypoid rear axle was also from the A30, but the brakes were fully hydraulic.

The obvious transatlantic styling with its slab doors was relieved only by sculpted door tops, there being no conventional wheel-arch cut-outs.

Lack of sales in the USA led to it being marketed in the UK in right hand drive form as the Austin Metropolitan.
